EU-Ukraine Association Agreement could not be signed right now, says Ambassador Tombinski

Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski has said that all the political forces in Ukraine should find a consensus for the country's further rapprochement with the European Union.

"It would be a good thing if the opposition and the majority respected the rules and procedures, took on this responsibility and shared this responsibility," the ambassador said at the conference, entitled "Ukraine-EU: on the Path to a Common Future" in Kyiv on Thursday.

The ambassador acknowledged that Ukraine has already done a lot, that the parliament has started working, but said that this was not enough for the signing of an Association Agreement with the EU.

"If today I was to answer whether the Association Agreement could be signed right now, then I would say it couldn't," the European diplomat said.

According to Tombinski, the EU and Ukraine have entered a new phase of preparation for the signing of the document, which is no less important than the previous one. The EU will be focused on issues of democracy, the rule of law, and justice, the ambassador said.
