State-run Affordable Housing program to be implemented in district centers, small towns of Ukraine in 2013, says Azarov

The state-run Affordable Housing program will be implemented in district centers, small towns and villages of Ukraine in 2013, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

"Our task is to launch the program for the construction of affordable housing using advanced and cheaper technology in district centers, medium and small cities, and villages next year. Therefore, first of all, the local authorities have to ensure that land plots are allocated for such mass construction, as well as take care of engineering networks and communications," he said while opening a meeting of the government on Wednesday.

The premier said the Affordable Housing program is actively developing. According to him, some 15,000 citizens have expressed the wish to receive mortgage loans under the program.

"But, first of all, all of these housing facilities are located as a rule in regional centers. And, secondly, considering the length of the housing queue, construction volumes have to be increased significantly," he said.
