Poroshenko believes Ukraine could be invited to NATO at The Hague summit

Ukrainian MP, leader of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko considers it possible to provide Ukraine with an invitation to the North Atlantic Alliance at the organization's summit in The Hague.

"We must strengthen sanctions, we must strengthen our unity, we must again pass from the Parliamentary Assembly a request to grant us, perhaps at the summit in The Hague, an invitation to NATO. That is possible. And I think it would be great if we made that joint request to President [of the United States Donald] Trump on the inauguration day. Dear President, make NATO big again," he said at a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council in Brussels on Monday.

According to a statement on the European Solidarity's website, Poroshenko emphasized that Putin does not need Crimea or Donbas, his "main plan is to destroy NATO, Europe, democracy and freedom."

He said that more than 60% of the artillery shells used by Russia to attack Ukraine in December and January are North Korean-made, and only 20% are made in Russia.

"Russia and North Korea together produce more artillery shells than all NATO countries. This is another proof that we must be ready for this war," Poroshenko said.

The party leader also noted that NATO should invest in the security and defense sector and learn from the Ukrainian experience how to fight back.

The NATO summit will be held on June 24-26 in The Hague, the Netherlands.
