Zelenskyy urges Trudeau to step up advocacy among partners to permit Ukraine to strike military targets in Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a call with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, during which he called on the head of the Canadian government to step up advocacy among partners to grant Ukraine permission to strike military targets in Russia.
"I had a phone conversation with Justin Trudeau. I briefed him about the rescue operation after the Russian shelling of Poltava. The Prime Minister of Canada expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Ukrainian people," Zelensky said in Telegram channel on Tuesday.
The interlocutors also discussed the continuation of defense cooperation between Ukraine and Canada. In addition, Zelenskyy informed about the current needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, in particular, additional air defense systems and armored vehicles. The interlocutors also discussed joint work within the drone coalition and the implementation of the bilateral security agreement signed on February 24, 2024.
"I called on the Prime Minister of Canada to strengthen advocacy among partners to provide Ukraine with permission and appropriate means to strike military targets on the territory of the aggressor country," Zelenskyy said.
At the end of the conversation, the interlocutors discussed the preparation of a thematic conference on the point of the Ukrainian Peace Formula "Release of prisoners and deportees" which is to be held in Canada.
