Indian MFA confirms visit of its PM to Ukraine on Friday
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kyiv on Friday, the Indian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
"Prime Minister Modi will make an official visit to Ukraine on Friday, August 23, at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy," The Times of India quoted Indian Deputy Foreign Minister Tanmay Lal as saying.
The ministry indicated that the Modi would first visit Poland, he would stay there from August 21 to August 22, and then travel by train to Kyiv.
The Indian Foreign Ministry stressed that this is "a historic visit, as the Indian Prime Minister will visit Ukraine for the first time in more than 30 years of diplomatic relations."
Earlier, the press service of the President of Ukraine announced the visit of the Prime Minister of India on August 23 - the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine.
"This is the first visit of the head of the Indian government to our state in the history of bilateral relations. During the visit, negotiations will take place with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where they will discuss issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation. It is also expected that a number of documents will be signed between Ukraine and India," the message says.
