Since start of invasion, 158 people notified of suspicion of human trafficking, 76 of them sentenced – PGO
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 158 people have been notified of suspicion of human trafficking, 76 of them have been sentenced, and a total of 382 criminal offenses of this category have been registered during this period, said Iryna Horban, head of the department at the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO).
"From these facts we already have identified individuals - 158 people have been reported as suspects, indictments have been sent to court against 155 people... If we talk about types of exploitation, 47 cases of sexual exploitation, 44 cases of labor exploitation and about 30 cases of involvement in criminal activity have been registered," she said on the air of the telethon on Friday.
It is reported that law enforcement officers have neutralized 12 organized crime groups. In total, 76 criminals have already received court sentences. A total of 197 people have been recognized as victims of these crimes, the overwhelming majority of whom are women and minors (64%).
It is noted that the Prosecutor General's Office is strengthening cooperation at the national and international levels to combat human trafficking. Thus, by decision of the Prosecutor General last year, a specialized department for combating human trafficking was created, and cooperation with a wide range of government agencies, public organizations and international partners continues to develop.
"The main goal of our activities is to identify and investigate each fact. If we know that there is a probable fact of exploitation of our citizens abroad, we, with the help of our colleagues from Europol and Eurojust, report this to the competent authorities of foreign states so that they can respond accordingly," Horban noted.
