Necessary to respond to Russian sanctions with new, precise sanctions against Putin's economic interests – MP Anton Gerashchenko

Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deputy (People's Front faction) Anton Gerashchenko has said Ukraine should introduce new point sanctions aimed at the economic interests of Russian President Vladimir Putin, businessmen and officials from his entourage.

Regarding new Russian sanctions against Ukrainian individuals and companies, Gerashchenko said: "The list is composed, in my opinion, of three groups: Political and public leaders who are really fighting against Russian aggression, Ukrainian businessmen who have property in Russia and in the territory of the occupied Ukrainian Crimea and Donbas, and persons who are agents of Russia in Ukrainian politics and economics who want to be 'legalized' before the parliamentary elections," Gerashchenko said on Facebook.

According to him, for persons sanctioned who do not have assets and the need to travel to Russia on personal or commercial matters, the Russian sanctions are "rather symbolic."

"This will be a real problem for businessmen and politicians who have property in the occupied Crimea and Donbas. Their property will be frozen and confiscated," the deputy said.

Gerashchenko said in response to the package of Russian sanctions, Ukraine "needs to introduce new precise sanctions aimed at the economic interests of Putin, Russian businessmen and officials from his closest circle."

"We must begin with the confiscation of the property of those deputies and senators who voted for the annexation of Crimea in March 2014. Ukraine's SBU Security Service and the National Security and Defense Council know whom I am referring to," he said.
