Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said it is important that Russia not use Belarus for its aggressive actions against Ukraine, according to the official website of the head of state.

"This is a border of friendship, and in no case should we allow any threat from the territory of Belarus to Ukraine. We do not wait, we know that this will not happen, and, of course, we don't want Russia to use Belarus in order to take us on the flank," Poroshenko said at a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian community in Gomel on Friday.

He emphasized the important role of the Ukrainian community for cooperation between the two states.

"Thank you, first of all, for supporting Ukraine. We now need this support very much. Thank you for keeping your good relations with Belarus through your prayers and your efforts. This is also important to us," Poroshenko said.

"We have arrived in Belarus with good intentions," he said.

The head of state noted that he had once decided to hold Ukraine peace talks in Minsk. Poroshenko also stressed that the Minsk negotiating process on resolving the situation in eastern Ukraine in connection with armed Russian aggression opens Europe's gate for Belarus.
