Blockade of six BCPs on Ukrainian-Polish border continues, load on BCPs with other countries increasing – State Border Guard Service

The blockade continues at six Ukrainian-Polish border crossing points (BCPs). Protesting Polish farmers allow one or two trucks per hour through in both directions. As a result, the load on BCPs with other countries has increased, where transport flows have been redirected, spokesman of the State Border Guard service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko said during the national telethon on Wednesday.

According to him, the most difficult situation is at the Yahodyn-Dorohusk and Shehyni-Medyka BCPs, where protesters do not allow cargo vehicles traveling from Ukraine towards Poland to pass at all.

"Yesterday [February 20] the situation was different, because Polish farmers scaled up their actions to block traffic for vehicles. They made it practically impossible for trucks to move in all directions. At three BCPs Ustyluh-Zosin, Uhryniv-Dołhobyczow, Rava Ruska - Hrebenne they limited the movement for other categories of transport, in particular, cars and buses, which for a certain time also could not cross the border both towards Ukraine and towards Poland. Gradually, after 16:00, until 18:00, traffic on these routes for cars and buses returned to normal," Demchenko said.

He also said that on Wednesday, cars and buses were passing through the blocked BCPs without problems.

The total number of blocked freight vehicles in queues at Polish-Ukrainian BCPs due to the protest of Polish farmers has reached more than 2,500, the spokesman of the State Border Guard Service said.

Demchenko said that BCPs with other countries operate as usual, but due to the fact that drivers choose them as an alternative to Polish BCPs, the load is increasing. In particular, according to him, this can be seen from the situation on the borders of Slovakia and Hungary.

"If a few weeks ago there were no queues, then as of Wednesday morning there are about 600 freight vehicles in queues on the territory of Slovakia opposite the Uzhgorod-Vyšné Nemecké BCP. On the territory of Hungary opposite the Tysa BCPs [Chop-Záhony] about 750 vehicles are waiting to cross the border," Demchenko said.

He said that the intensity of traffic at these BCPs corresponds to the capacity of each of them.
