Shmyhal: Ukraine and Romania reaching qualitatively new level of cooperation

Ukraine and Romania are reaching a qualitatively new level of cooperation, this further strengthens solidarity in confronting the Russian aggressor, said Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

“Today in Kyiv, joint intergovernmental Ukrainian-Romanian consultations took place, in fact a joint meeting of governments ... Together we are opening a new page in relations between Ukraine and Romania and reaching a qualitatively new level of cooperation. This further strengthens our solidarity in confronting the Russian aggressor,” Shmyhal said at a joint press conference with Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Wednesday.

He noted that the most promising areas for cooperation between countries are four areas: logistics, among other things - the active development of the Danube port cluster; border infrastructure, in particular, plans to open four new checkpoints in Bukovyna and Zakarpattia; agriculture, in particular in the field of grain storage; energy.

According to Shmyhal, as a result of the consultations, seven documents were signed: a joint statement; intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a road border bridge across the Tisza River between the settlements of Bila Tserkva and Sighetu Marmaţiei; a memorandum on strengthening cooperation to ensure reliable transit of Ukrainian-made products; intergovernmental implementation protocol to the agreement between Ukraine and the European Community on the readmission of persons; Declaration of intent between the Ukrainian Ministry of Health and the Romanian Ministry of Health; a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the pharmaceutical field between the specialized services of both countries; memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the Ukrainian Ministry of Strategic Industry and the Romanian Ministry of Economy on increasing defense capabilities (increasing production capacity, expanding ammunition production).

According to Ciolacu, in the near future a number of Romanian ministers will visit Ukraine to sign other documents on cooperation.
