Zelensky says ceasefire, troops withdrawal, security guarantees to be compromise for everyone

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Russian troops and the provision of security guarantees to Ukraine would be a compromise for all sides.

"People, if they want to end the war: cease fire, withdraw troops. The presidents met, agreed that the troops should be withdrawn, that there are certain security guarantees, that compromises can be found, that there are certain guarantors of our security. They [the guarantors] should say that they take Ukraine into NATO and not play with it anymore or say that they are not taking it now [Ukraine], which is true. And they themselves understand that they do not want to fight with Russia and therefore they us and they do not take it… And we need to calm down with this and say: 'Okay, other guarantees," Zelensky said in an interview with public broadcasters in a number of European countries.

"There are NATO member countries that want to be guarantors that cannot provide us with 100% membership in the Alliance, but are ready to do everything that the Alliance would have to do if we were its members. And I believe that It's a normal compromise," he added.

According to the President, such a compromise would be suitable for all parties.

"It is a compromise for everyone. For the West, which does not know what to do with us with regard to NATO, for Ukraine, which wants security guarantees, and for Russia, which does not want to further NATO expansion. And a compromise needs to be found in this, as this will be the point at ending the war," Zelensky said.

At the same time, as the president said, Russia's presentation of ultimatums will lead to nothing.

"There is no need to throw loud phrases to Russia [Ukraine]. They will lead nowhere. They say we [Russia] have an ultimatum, carry it out and then we will end the war. This is wrong and will lead to nothing. The question is not in me. In Ukraine, the people and the authorities are united. We all will not be able to do this [to fulfill ultimatums]... We have lost people. Well, how can you give an ultimatum? We need to destroy us all and then their ultimatum will be automatically fulfilled," he said.

"For example: give us Kharkiv, Mariupol, Kyiv. Neither Kharkiv, nor Mariupol, nor Kyiv, nor the president will be able to do this. And we see this even in the occupied cities - in Melitopol, in Berdiansk. When they [Russians] came, people did not give them back [the land]. They raise the flag, people came to take it off at night... Well, what do you want? We can only fulfill the ultimatum when we are gone. That is, you can automatically capture the city, but you will live there yourself, to work on their own, because people will either leave the city, and those who cannot will fight to the last," Zelensky said.

According to him, "an ultimatum is a bad thing that leads to genocide and the destruction of the Ukrainian people."
