Number of people who left Ukraine on March 17 for EU, Moldova fell by 20% - State Border Guard Service

Almost 55,000 people crossed the state border of Ukraine to the EU and Moldova on March 17, which is 20% less than the day before, the State Border Guard Service said on Friday.

"Passenger traffic has significantly decreased compared to the previous day... Now there are no queues of pedestrians and vehicles in almost all directions," the message says.

According to him, Poland accounted for more than 60% of those who left, but this is also less than on all previous days, when the share of Poland was 65-69%.

At the same time, according to the State Border Guard Service, the flow of people entering Ukraine has slightly increased in recent days. In particular, on March 17, their number exceeded 18,000, including more than 15,000 citizens of Ukraine, while on March 14 these figures were 15,0000 and 13,000, respectively.

"The vast majority are men who are ready to defend the country. In total, more than 302,000 of our compatriots have returned to Ukraine since the beginning of open armed aggression," the ministry said.

The State Border Guard Service recalled that all checkpoints on the western border (except Dzvinkove) operate around the clock.

She also said that over the past 24 hours, almost 800 vehicles with humanitarian cargo were registered at the western borders, this number has been stable for the past few days.

According to UNHCR data, as of 13:00 on March 16, a total of 3.17 million people left Ukraine since the beginning of the war, of which Poland received 1.92 million, Romania and Moldova - 571,000, Hungary - 282,610, Slovakia - 228,840.
