Military exercises announced in Belarus pose no threat to Ukraine – Border Guard Service

The military exercises that Belarus plans to hold until the end of January pose no threat to Ukraine, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko has said Tuesday.

"These exercises, which have been announced, which are to continue until the end of January, do not pose a threat to us. In addition to the fact that Belarus constantly conducts various kinds of exercises on its territory, and we also remember previous years, when such exercises were held with units of the Russian army, I would add that at the moment there are no Russian troops, strike group in sufficient numbers on the territory of Belarus, because the terrorist country has gradually withdrawn them to its territory, and has not deployed new ones within the framework of rotation," he told a press briefing.

"That is why it is Belarus that continues to escalate the situation now, playing along with Russia," Demchenko explained.

According to him, the presence of Russian troops in Belarus is not recorded, as well as no exercises in close proximity to the Ukrainian border.

"We do not see the presence of Russian troops there, and it is an exercise with territorial defense units, reservists were planned to be involved. But in fact, they are not in close proximity to our border. I am not even sure that any equipment will be involved in these exercises. This is a demonstration by Belarus that they are strengthening their defense capabilities, since it is Ukraine that poses a threat to them. And they will continue to support such rhetoric," the spokesman said.
