Telegram adjusts confidentiality policy to new EU regulation

Telegram has adjusted its confidentiality policy to the EU General Data Protection Regulation, according to a statement posted on the messenger website.

"The confidentiality policy was extended on August 14, 2018, to include information required by the EU data protection legislation," the statement said.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has endorsed new rules of processing users' personal data. Companies, which fail to comply with the new regulation, will be prohibited from working on the European market and may pay a fine of up to 20 million euros. The regulation took effect on May 25, 2018.

Telegram updated the confidentiality policy section of its website on Tuesday and said it was "ready to share personal data of users suspected of terrorism with the authorities in case of a relevant court order."
