Russia-led fighters fire on residential areas of Pivdenne in Donetsk region

Russia-led fighters have fired at residential areas of Pivdenne (Donetsk region), members of Ukraine's contingent in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) have said.

"Disregarding international law on the prohibition of strikes against civilian objects defined in the Hague Convention of 1907 and the 1945 Geneva Convention, Russia-led armed formations from 20.45 to 22.00 on August 12, 2018 fired at the settlement of Pivdenne, using 120mm mortars and SPG-9 anti-tank weapons," a statement on JCCC's Facebook said on Monday evening.

"Shelling has destroyed residential and farm buildings and only the timely actions of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine prevented losses among civilians, which managed to withdraw," the statement said.

The Military Prosecutor's Office and representatives of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine were immediately notified about the shelling.
