Ukraine will do everything possible to prevent Russia from using the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project as an element of a hybrid war both against Kyiv and against Europe, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.

"We will do everything in order to convey an objective picture and prevent Russia from using Nord Stream as an element of a hybrid war against not only Ukraine, but also against the whole of Europe. I declare that we will do everything that depends on us," Poroshenko told reporters after a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron in Aachen, Germany, on Thursday.

He noted that he constantly raised the topic of the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline during negotiations with representatives of Germany, France, and the European Commission

According to Poroshenko, the construction of the pipeline represents "an extremely big danger not only for Ukraine, and not only in terms of finance."

"This danger is geostrategic... and it is impossible to irresponsibly treat this extremely important function," Poroshenko said.

According to him, Ukraine's gas transit system is an element to deter the aggressor.

"I am extremely pleased that we now have broader support in the European Union," Poroshenko said.
