Ukraine, Sweden to sign defense cooperation agreement – Poltorak

The governments of Ukraine and Sweden plan to draw up and sign an agreement on cooperation in the defense sector, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak has said.

"We've agreed to review the international protocol our relations are currently built on (signed in 2001). We've come to understanding about the need to draw up an agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Sweden on cooperation in the defense sphere," he said after talks with Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Sweden Peter Hultqvist in Kyiv on Monday.

According to Poltorak, their dialogue paid much attention to the security situation in the east of Ukraine and in the world, as well as to the possibility of deploying an UN peacekeeping mission to the temporarily occupied areas in Donbas.

"In particular, about the Swedish Armed Forces' possible participation in this mission. We've agreed on all issues. Our decisions are absolutely constructive," the Ukrainian minister said.
