Poroshenko Bloc and president didn't discuss severing relations with Russia - envoy

The Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction did not discuss the possibility of breaking off diplomatic relations with Russia at its meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, the cabinet's representative to the parliament, Vadym Denysenko, a member of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction, said.

"It is a myth. There was no such discussion [...] A discussion is something that involves a debate. This issue does not fall within the remit of this law. It is primarily about the integration of Donbas, and breaking off diplomatic relations is not a matter for the Verkhovna Rada at all," Denysenko told Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.

He declined to say what the president might have said on this issue.

"I relayed to you word for word what was said at the faction's meeting yesterday," Denysenko said when asked whether Poroshenko had given his opinion on the idea of severing diplomatic relations with Russia.

The faction held its meeting at the presidential administration headquarters on Wednesday evening, he said.

"The faction's meeting was at the presidential administration, and it takes place with the president once every two or three months on average. There are no secrets here," he said.

Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction MP Ivan Vinnyk said earlier in televised remarks that the president does not support the idea of breaking off diplomatic relations with Russia.
