Interpol searching for paintings of 18th-19th centuries illegally transferred to Simferopol Museum in March 2014

Interpol has announced the search for 52 paintings of the Museum Fund of Ukrainian artists of the 18th-19th centuries, which were illegally transferred to the Simferopol Art Museum in March 2014.

"Some 52 paintings of the Museum Fund of Ukrainian artists of the 18th and 19th centuries, which were illegally transferred to the Simferopol Art Museum in March 2014, were put on state and interstate wanted list by the Interpol channels. There are such exhibit items among them as Ivan Aivazovsky's 'Moonlit Night', 'Forest Road' by Ivan Shishkin, 'The Swamp' by Isaak Levitan, and others," the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea said.

At present, prosecutors of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea have identified photographs of exhibit items, the estimated value of which as of March 20, 2014 was amounted to $1.324 million.
