President vetoes bill on denationalization of printed media

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has vetoed bill No. 1123 on the reform of state-owned and municipal printed media outlets and sent own proposals to the parliament.

The proposals were sent on December 21.

The document cannot be signed as it does not foresee the requirement, according to which the language of the printed media is retained after the state leaves its structure of owners.

There is a risk of reducing the number of printed media in national language. In the conditions of information aggression, the issue of protection the language and information space of Ukraine is of special importance, the president said. The president proposed that Paragraph 2 of Part 1 of Article 3, Part 4 of Article 5 and Article 7 are extended after word "target" with words "the language of the publication."

Poroshenko also proposed that the provision that the publication of official documents, including those of the parliament, president, Cabinet of Ministers, is not regulated by the bill is added.
