Opposition Bloc, Nash Kray demonstrate best results in Severodonetsk town council election

After 100% of local election protocols in the town of Severodonetsk, which is now the location of Luhansk region's administrative agencies, have been processed, the seats of Severodonetsk town council are split in the following way: 16 out of 36 local deputy mandates are those of the Opposition Bloc, Nash Kray (known for including 60 incumbent and acting mayors, most of whom until recently were representatives of the ousted president Viktor Yanukovych's Regions Party) have got nine seats, according to the Central Election Commission's official website.

The Petro Poroshenko Bloc "Solidarnist" (Solidarity) will be represented by four deputies, Samopomich led by incumbent Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy will have three seats, Oleh Liashko's Radical Party and Yulia Tymoshenko's Batkivschyna Party will have two each.

A new Severodonetsk mayor will be elected at the second round of the local election, as incumbent mayor, self-nominee Valentyn Kazakov was supported by 26.4% of voters. His closest rival, Director of Severodonetsk thermal power plant and former Severodonetsk mayor (1994-2010, had four mayoral terms), self-nominee Volodymyr Hrytsyshyn got 23.1% of votes.

As Kazakov failed to collect 50% of votes in Severodonetsk whose population is 130,000 people, there will be the second round of the mayoral election in the town on November 15.

Kazakov is former chairman of Severodonetsk Azot chemical plant's board. When he was first elected mayor, he was a Regions Party member.
