Driver of Constitutional Court's Chairman dies in Poltava hospital

The driver of Yuriy Baulin, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court died in N. Sklifosovsky Poltava regional clinical hospital on Thursday night.

"Expert reviews have been appointed to establish who's responsible for the accident. If the guilt of the driver that died in the hospital is proved, the case will be closed due to his death," the press service of regional police office told journalists.

The hospital has not provided anymore details on the deceased.

Baulin himself is currently in a Kyiv hospital, as well as a 12-year old girl that survived the crash.

As reported, at about 20:00 on July 2, a Toyota Camry car collided with a Nissan car after crossing into the oncoming lane at the 320th km of the Kyiv-Kharkiv road in Poltava region. Baulin was a passenger in the Toyota, the other vehicle was carrying a family of four, three of whom died.

After the accident, Baulin was delivered to M. Sklifosovsky Poltava regional clinical hospital with numerous internal injuries and a craniocerebral trauma.

A criminal proceeding was opened under Part 3, Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of road safety or transport's operation rules by drivers if their actions caused deaths of two or more people). The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
