Avakov declares Ukraine's secession from CIS criminal search network – newspaper

Ukraine is withdrawing from the CIS agreement on information exchange between interior ministries on August 24, 2015, Izvestia wrote on Tuesday, quoting Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov.

"Proposals of cooperation in the field of information exchange and search for suspects in CIS member countries based on bilateral agreements will be sent to all CIS states," the newspaper said.

Already in August, Avakov intends to offer Russia to begin the search for suspects in CIS countries within the Interpol international system.

In the opinion of Avakov, the search system for criminals that currently operates in the CIS does not suit Ukraine as Russia has been ignoring documents for the search requested by Kyiv.

In turn, a source in the Russian law enforcement authorities told Izvestia that the Ukrainian interior minister played cunning when he claimed that the system of suspect exchange between the two countries was not working.

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office made 25 decisions regarding extraditions to Ukraine in the first six months of 2015.

"Ukraine was a signatory to that agreement. And now, when so much has been done for the joint fight against crime and the database is absorbing new information each year, our neighbors 'are slamming the door shut'," a source from the Russian Interior Ministry told the newspaper.
