Poroshenko registers bill on experiment with road maintenance financing in Odesa, Volyn, Lviv regions

A draft bill on amendments to the Budget Code regarding an experiment with the financing of renovation and maintenance of principal public-access roads in Odesa, Volyn, and Lviv regions has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada.

Draft bill No. 2315а was tabled by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Wednesday, according to an announcement on the parliament's website.

The experiment concerns the distribution of assets collected by local customs agencies.

As reported, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk proposed conducting an experiment by giving half of the excess receipts collected from the operation of Odesa regional customs to Odesa region.

"The government has a proposal: we have planned receipts from Odesa regional customs. All that is above the plan to divide it 50 to 50. Some 50% - to the national budget, 50% - to Odesa," Yatseniuk said in late June.

Yatseniuk also said he had recently held talks with Chairman of Odesa Regional State Administration Mikheil Saakashvili and that the regional authorities would spend extra revenue on the construction of the Odesa-Reni road.
