BRSM-Nafta oil depot and gas fuel station belonged to former energy and coal industry minister Eduard Stavytsky, Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) head Valentyn Nalyvaichenko said a government meeting on Friday.

"We must state clearly that this oil depot and other of this kind to it belonged to former energy minister Stavytsky…The second thing is that we're prepared together with the Interior Minister to investigate how the deputy prosecutor general halted a police inquiry, how he became a co-owner of such an oil depot and similar oil depots. And the main thing is that namely these billionaires to compensate loses [for the fire] to families and our citizens to the budget," Nalyvaichenko said.

He said that there is an agreement with the FBI to start an interagency probe into the case.

"We clearly state that namely bribe-takers caused damage by this fire that caused the death of people," he said.

Meanwhile, during a press conference held at Interfax-Ukraine on Friday, Chairman of the Board of the Dutch FreezeOil Fund (who is co-owner of BRSM-Nafta) Roland Pieper said that his company is in no way connected with Stavytsky.

"When purchasing we carried [out] due diligence – no connection with him has been revealed," he said.
