Bill restructuring foreign-currency loans sent for third reading in Rada

The Verkhovna Rada has passed at second reading a bill restructuring the country's liabilities on loans in foreign currency and sent it for third reading.

The document was passed at first reading by 227 votes. At the same time, the parliament was short of votes to pass the document as a whole.

Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction leader Yuriy Lutsenko suggested that the document should be sent for third reading.

This decision was supported by 249 lawmakers.

Holders of foreign-currency loans and mortgages who found themselves in a difficult situation after a 2.5 fall in the hryvnia against the U.S. dollar have staged repeated protests in Kyiv.
