Ukrainian opposition responsible for delay in fulfillment of all commitments to PACE - PM Azarov

Ukraine has fulfilled nearly all of its commitments to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), and it is the opposition that is to blame for the delay in resolving all issues, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at a meeting with PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs on Ukraine Mailis Reps and Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin.

"Our agreements with the Council of Europe have virtually been implemented. There are some questions regarding the adoption of legislation on the prosecution service, but I hope the parliament will pass it in the near future. Our biggest problem is not that we are not preparing the necessary bills but that we have a very special opposition, which prefers to build barricades in the center of Kyiv rather than work at the parliament," the Ukrainian Cabinet press service quoted Azarov as saying.

Experts of influential international credit rating agencies have acknowledged that, after Ukraine suspended preparations for signing an association agreement with the EU and signed agreements with Russia, the risk of Ukraine's default has lowered and its credit rating rose, Azarov said.

The parties discussed a broad range of issues pertaining to Ukraine's cooperation with PACE, and the prime minister briefed the co-rapporteurs on the current political situation in Ukraine, the press service said.
