Ukrainians living abroad and European business entities have called on the governments of their countries to support the signing of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine.

"Not only Ukrainian government branches, but also Ukrainians abroad and foreign businesses have consolidated around the idea of signing the Association Agreement with the EU," Director of the Information Policy Department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Yevhen Perebyinis said at a Tuesday press briefing in Kyiv.

He noted that associations of Ukrainians abroad have sent letters and statements to European institutions, members of the European Parliament, heads of states, heads of governments, and foreign ministers calling on them to back the signing of the document.

"As of today, the Ukrainian communities in Austria, Greece, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, France, Croatia, Sweden, and the U.S. have sent such addresses," he said.

Perebyinis also noted that in 2013 the Ukrainian World Congress has released five statements in support of Ukraine's integration with the EU.

In addition, according to Perebyinis, European business associations, companies and their groups also send addresses to European institutions, heads of states, heads of governments, foreign ministers urging them to support the signing of the agreement.

"Seven such letters have been sent in Italy, three in Greece and Spain, as well as [one each] in Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary, Denmark, Portugal, Ireland, and Lithuania," he said.

"In general, considering mutual interest of Ukrainian and European businesses in the creation of a free trade area between Ukraine and the EU, many organizations and companies in Europe sustainably support and promote the signing of the Association Agreement," Perebyinis said.
