The opposition expects Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to answer on Monday whether he will speak in parliament.

"The parliament chairman said that he will meet with the president on Monday and that the Ukrainian president will make an official statement in this regard on Monday on whether he will observe the constitutional provision and address the parliament in the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine," Batkivschyna faction leader Arseniy Yatseniuk said at a press briefing on Friday.

"We expect Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to express his political and public position on Monday," he added.

UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko, in turn, said that over the past three years Yanukovych had not held a single meeting with opposition representatives.

"This is very bad practice. This never happened in the presidencies of Leonid Kravchuk, Leonid Kuchma and Viktor Yuschenko," Klitschko said.

The politician said that the opposition insists that the president come to parliament and report "in person, rather than from a piece of paper."

Yatseniuk also said that the opposition's demands remain unchanged: the decision to hold elections in five single-mandate districts this autumn and the holding of early elections for Kyiv City Council deputies and Kyiv mayor. The opposition, in addition, is also demanding that an agreement between Ukraine and Cyprus on the avoidance of double taxation be denounced and that a resolution on the appointment of judges be voted on again.
