Six national experts claiming post of head of Ukraine's national football team

Members of the coaching board of the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) – the managers of clubs of the Ukrainian Premier League – are proposing six national experts, as well as foreigners, for the post of coach of Ukraine's national football team.

"All of the coaches have provided their proposals to us. Among the candidates, Mykola Pavlov, Oleksandr Zavarov, Pavlo Yakovenko, Oleksiy Mykhailychenko, Leonid Buriak and Mykhailo Fomenko were most frequently mentioned," the head of the committee of national teams and the coaching board, Mykhailo Fomenko, told the FFU's press service.

On October 16, at a meeting of the head coaches of clubs of the Ukrainian Premier League and FFU leadership, it was decided that all of the coaches of leading Ukrainian clubs would join the coaching board. FFU President Anatoliy Konkov invited them to give their opinions within a week on who should head the national team.

Fomenko noted that proposals about foreign coaches had also been made, but these mostly did not concern concrete individuals.

"The coaches named the countries from which they would like to see specialists. First and foremost, these are Germany and England, as they believe that there are coaches there who are building the tactics of teams, primarily on the basis of respect for team discipline. And this component is currently very important to us," he said.

It has not yet been decided who will head the Ukrainian team in a friendly match against Bulgaria on November 14. At the same time, Fomenko said that Zavarov and Oleh Kuznetsov, who prepared the team for 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Montenegro, along with acting head coach Andriy Bal, remained on the coaching staff.

As reported, Ukraine has won only two points in the first three qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. England is on top of Group H, with eight points from four games. Montenegro is second (seven points from three games), Poland is third (five points from three games), Moldova is fourth (four points in four matches), and San Marino has no points.
