Ukrainian Interior Ministry gets about 3,700 reports of violations of electoral process

The Ukrainian Interior Ministry has received about 3,700 reports of violations of the electoral process over the period of the current election campaign, Deputy Interior Minister Viktor Ratushniak said at a briefing on Wednesday.

According to the materials distributed to journalists, reports were most often related to illegal campaigning – 1,164, hooliganism - 644, and the identification of campaign materials produced in violation of the current legislation - 464.

There were also reports of vote buying - 290, theft – 96, death threats – 69, election law violations - 49, and causing bodily injuries - 30.

Ratushniak said that the police had currently opened 75 criminal cases and that administrative reports had been drawn up with respect to 241 people.

"We expect the number of such statements to grow ahead of Election Day," he said.

Over 60,000 police officers are to be involved in maintaining public order and responding to possible violations on Election Day on October 28.
