Ukraine should conduct any talks only from position of strength in next 3-6 months – President of Finland

President of Finland Alexander Stubb states the need to continue financial, military and political support for Ukraine, which began after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, so that Ukraine can begin peaceful negotiations from a position of strength.

Stubb said on Thursday at the Ukrainian Breakfast in Davos, organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, that for him, the victory plan is linear and consists of three stages. He explained that the first stage is the short term, and in the short term, it is necessary to continue the financial, military, and political support that has been provided to Ukraine over the last three years.

He also made it clear that he expects negotiations for putting an end to the war in Ukraine to take place within three to six months.

The Finnish president emphasized that they must think ahead about what to do in the next three to six months. He stated that Ukraine must begin any negotiations from a position of strength and that they must continue to promote the idea that there would be no negotiations without Ukraine.

Stubb noted that he sees positive signals in this direction from the administration of new US President Donald Trump. According to him, he has a feeling and a premonition that the arbiter of fate in this matter, President Trump, sees this too, as does General Kellogg.

The Finnish head of state said that people had talked before the US elections about the US turning its back on Ukraine, but from what he had heard from Trump and what he had seen on video that day, he just didn't see that happening. He added that, in fact, he was quite encouraged by the current state of affairs.

Stubb emphasized that for Finland, the victory of Ukraine is the first priority, adding that this is why Finland is the fifth-largest supporter of Ukraine and will continue to be so in the future.
