Shmyhal: UN to raise over $2.6 bln in 2025 to support Ukrainians, incl $492 mln in heating season

The United Nations (UN) plans to raise more than $2.6 billion to help Ukrainians in 2025, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said following a meeting with representatives of this international organization, during which they discussed priority areas that require this financing, in particular, the provision of drinking water, demining, alternative sources of heat and energy.
"The UN plans to raise more than $2.6 billion to help Ukrainians in 2025. This provides for the plan approved by the organization. I discussed its implementation with Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher and UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi," he said in a Telegram message on Thursday.
According to the Prime Minister, the parties talked about the UN Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan for Ukraine in 2025.
"We also talked about existing and new support programs. In particular, drew attention to such priority projects as provision of drinking water to communities in the South of Ukraine, demining, alternative sources of heat and energy, restoration of housing and construction of bomb shelters, programs for business development. We expect that all assistance programs for Ukrainians will be extended, and we also count on a significant UN contribution to humanitarian demining in Ukraine this year, in particular by launching new programs and projects," he said.
"I thanked for the humanitarian programs aimed at supporting the displaced people and passing the winter period, implemented jointly with the Government of Ukraine. For the passage of this heating season, the UN envisaged $492 million," Shmyhal said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the partnership between Ukraine and the UN and UNHCR continues to develop.
"Thank you for the support and assistance provided to Ukrainians affected by the war," he said.
According to the Ukrainian Prime Minister, 8.5 million Ukrainians were covered by various types of assistance from the UN in 2024.
