Umerov tells Borrell about possibilities of Ukraine producing drones worth $11 bln
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov spoke about the possibilities of Ukrainian drone production during a meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in Kyiv.
"I told the EU delegation about the possibilities of Ukrainian drone production, which is currently estimated at $11 billion. Of this, we can invest about $3 billion ourselves, but to maximize our potential, we need financial support from our partners," Umerov wrote on Facebook on Monday.
He expressed hope that a significant part of the next tranche of frozen Russian assets will be directed specifically at strengthening the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex. According to the minister, "one of the most effective steps to help our defenders is investing in the Ukrainian defense-industrial sector."
"I highly appreciate Mr. Borrell's personal contribution to diplomatic, economic and military support for Ukraine. In gratitude for these efforts, which have strengthened our defense capabilities, I presented him with the Cross of Honor," Umerov said.
The EU has already provided Ukraine with military aid worth EUR 44 billion.
