USA supply Lithuania with more than 150 armored JLTV SUVs
The United States has supplied Lithuania with more than 150 armored JLTV SUVs manufactured by Oshkosh Defense, which can be equipped with short-range air defense systems, the press service of the Lithuanian Defense Ministry reported on Thursday.
"The Ministry of National Defense continues the second stage of the acquisition of American armored off-road vehicles JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle). This week, a batch of more than 150 units of the world's most advanced armored SUVs was handed over to the Lithuanian army ... The advantage of JLTV is the high level of protection of the crew. These technically advanced all-terrain vehicles provide greater efficiency in reconnaissance and support of combat operations," the report says.
According to Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas, "these armored SUVs will also be used as a platform for short-range air defense systems."
The military department clarified that it’s about the RBS70 NG short-range air defense system (also known by the abbreviation MSHORAD), which Lithuania purchased in July this year, and whose deliveries are scheduled for 2025-2027.
The first batch, including 200 armored JLTV SUVs, was delivered to Lithuania in 2023. In total, the contract provides for the supply of 500 machines.
