Stefanishyna on changes in US election race: strong bipartisan support must be maintained
U.S. support for Ukraine should be maintained and remain bipartisan under all conditions, said Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine.
"Regardless of the names of the candidates, these are the Democratic and Republican parties. The first pillar on which the position of the President of Ukraine is based is the preservation of strong bipartisan support. This must be maintained under any conditions," Stefanishyna told reporters in Kyiv on Monday, answering a question about further communication between Ukraine and the U.S. Democrats in connection with Joseph Biden's decision not to participate in the upcoming elections.
In addition, she considers it an "extraordinary manifestation of political maturity and courage" of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to initiate communication with U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump even before the information about Biden's withdrawal of his candidacy.
She also stressed that the necessary balance in communication will be maintained.
As previously reported, Biden announced that he was leaving the presidential race, but would continue to fulfill his duties until the end of his tenure. He called on the Democratic Party to nominate incumbent Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris as a presidential candidate.
