Citizen recruitment for AFU increases 3.5 times from end of 2022 to spring 2024 – General Staff

Over the last two months, the rate of attracting citizens to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on a voluntary basis has increased 3.5 times compared to the period from the end of 2022 to the spring of 2024, Head of the Main Personnel Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Roman Horbach said.

"Starting from the end of 2022, 2023 and the beginning of 2024. If we compare this with the last two months, then over these two months the average monthly recruitment of personnel on a voluntary basis increased by 3.5 times. This is on a voluntary basis," Horbach said at a briefing on Friday.

The colonel said two recruiting centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently operating: the Navy and Special Operations Forces, and recruiting centers for the Air Assault and Ground Forces are also being formed.

In turn, Ministry of Defense Commissioner for Recruitment Oleksiy Bezhevets, said that as of today, some 10,120 citizens have received consultations at recruiting centers. He said this recruiting model began to develop in February 2024. The first recruiting center was opened in Lviv on February 12.

"More than 1,000 people are either military personnel or are completing registration in the Territorial Recruitment Centers," he said.
