Support for Ukraine shouldn’t depend on bureaucratic delays, internal obstacles – Albanian PM
Albanian President Edi Rama has said that Russia should not be allowed to win and Ukraine to lose.
"We must do everything we can to prevent aggression from being rewarded. We cannot allow Russia to win and Ukraine to lose. The very existence of the European Union will be in question," he said on Wednesday, speaking at the opening of the Ukraine-Southeastern Europe summit in Tirana.
"We call on Russia to stop this war. We want to reaffirm our commitment to peace, a just peace based on international law and the resolution of the UN General Assembly. Peace that will respect Ukraine and its rights," Rama said.
According to him, "we are not able to offer the levels of military or financial assistance that Ukraine needs in order to properly protect itself and its people." He called on all members of the democratic community to "join us."
"So that all the wealthy members of the democratic community recognize that the survival of Ukraine as a free and democratic state and as a bastion of freedom in Europe depends on the financial and military support they provide. This support should not depend on bureaucratic delays or internal obstacles," Rama said.
"We must stay together, mobilize all our capabilities and resources, all that holds us together, institutions and organizations, strengthening our democracy … This is a war for our own freedom and dignity too," the prime minister said.
"We must have full clarity for Ukraine. We need irrevocable solidarity with Ukraine and all efforts to support Ukraine," Rama said.
