UN announces need to raise $4.2 bln to help Ukrainians in 2024

The UN on Monday called for raising more than $4 billion to help people living in Ukraine and Ukrainians who were forced to leave the country due to the full-scale military aggression of the Russian Federation, the Associated Press reported, citing a statement by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

According to the statement, $3.1 billion is meant to support some 8.5 million people inside Ukraine. The remaining $1.1 billion is sought for refugees and host communities outside Ukraine.

OCHA estimates that 14.6 million people in the country need humanitarian help.

Moreover, according to the UN, only half of school-age refugee children are enrolled in schools where they are now, and only 40-60% are employed.

"Many remain vulnerable with no means to support themselves," the UN said.
