Some 92% of Ukrainians consider Holodomor a genocide of Ukrainian people – poll

In 2023, some 92% of Ukrainians surveyed considered the Holodomor Famine a genocide of the Ukrainian people, while in 2010 the figure was 62%, according to a poll conducted by the Sociological Group Rating on November 14-16, 2023.

"In 2010, some 60% of those surveyed by the Rating group answered affirmatively to the question 'Do you agree that the 1932-1933 Holodomor was a genocide of the Ukrainian people?' According to the results of the Rating's latest survey, in 2023, some 92% agree with the statement. Only 4% deny this, 4% found it difficult to answer," Rating said in a press release on the results of the survey.

"Over the past ten years, there has been a one and a half times increase in the number of respondents who agree with the thesis that the Holodomor of 1932-1933 is a genocide of the Ukrainian people. The Holodomor of 1932-1933 is recognized as genocide by the absolute majority of residents, including western, central, and south-eastern regions of the country. Also, no significant deviations in age in this matter were recorded," it said.

The Sociological Group Rating has been conducting surveys of the Ukrainian population on attitudes towards the Holodomor every year since 2010. In 2023, the study was conducted on November 14-16, 2023 among the population of Ukraine aged 18 years and older in all regions, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas, as well as territories where there is no Ukrainian mobile communication at the time of the survey. The sample is 1,000 respondents, it is representative by age, gender and type of settlement. The poll was conducted via telephone interviews using a computer. Representativeness error is no more than 3.1%.
