Parliament at first reading adopts bill to get $15 mln from Canada to complete construction of Holodomor Museum
The Verkhovna Rada at first reading adopted bill No. 10361, which will help receive 15 million Canadian dollars (about UAH 420 million) from the Canadian government to complete the construction of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide.
According to the deputy head of the committee on humanitarian and information policy, Yevhenia Kravchuk (the Servant of the People faction), this decision was supported by 230 MPs at a plenary meeting on Wednesday.
“The law is a prerequisite for the government of Canada to provide about UAH 420 million (15 million Canadian dollars) for the completion of the museum, as well as additional financial support from patrons and the diaspora for the arrangement of the exhibition,” the parliamentarian wrote on Facebook.
The bill provides for the creation of supervisory and expert councils at the museum, which will include representatives of professional and scientific groups, international organizations of foreign Ukrainians and descendants of Holodomor victims.
The supervisory board will oversee the activities of the museum, control over the performance of the general director of his duties, his compliance with the terms of the contract, the implementation of financial and economic activities, and the board will give the head of the museum proposals for his work and help attract additional sources of funding.
At the same time, the expert council is assigned the role of coordinator of the scientific work of the institution. In particular, it will provide the general director with proposals for organizing and conducting scientific research, as well as integrating the museum into the global scientific space.
As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, as a subject of the right of legislative initiative, registered bill No. 10361 in the Verkhovna Rada on December 20, 2023.
