MFA: We call on world to increase pressure on Kremlin, provide military, humanitarian aid to Ukraine

On the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on the international community to increase pressure on the Kremlin and continue to provide military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said.

"On the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide... the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry recalls the international legal obligations of the states of the world to cooperate to prevent and suppress genocide, as well as crimes against humanity and war crimes," the MFA said in the statement.

The Foreign Ministry calls on the international community to decisively increase pressure on the "Kremlin regime," continue to provide military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, and help ensure that all those involved in committing crimes against Ukraine and Ukrainians are brought to due responsibility.

The ministry also called for maximum assistance in the return of illegally deported and forcibly displaced Ukrainian children and the release of civilian hostages, political prisoners and prisoners of war.

The MFA press service said the UN General Assembly on December 9, 1948 adopted a convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide. Article 2 of the convention defines genocide as any of the actions taken with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group as such.

"By continuing to kill the civilian population of Ukraine, attack critical infrastructure, destroy historical and cultural heritage, and forcibly remove Ukrainian children with the aim of further changing their status and indoctrination, Russia is waging an unprovoked war against Ukrainian identity. This entire range of crimes is widely practiced by the Putin regime in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine since the beginning of the aggression in 2014," the Foreign Ministry said.
