Holodomor was a mass destruction weapon of Ukrainian people, now Russia again weaponizes food – Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church head
The 1932-1933 Holodomor Famine in Ukraine was a weapon of mass destruction used by the Stalin regime against the Ukrainian people, and today Russia again weaponizes food, Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Sviatoslav Shevchuk has said.
"Ninety years ago, the Stalin regime used famine as a weapon for the first time. Considering the scale of this tragedy, the millions of lives claimed by the Stalin regime on the Ukrainian land, we begin to understand that it was a weapon of mass destruction. Probably, the cheapest one in the world… We also understand that such a crime resulted into the destruction of the sovereign and independent Ukrainian state," he said in a video address at a special event of the Kyiv Security Forum organized by the Open Ukraine: Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation on Tuesday.
Today, the Russian occupation forces are trying to weaponize anything they can, including food, Shevchuk said, according to the press service of the foundation.
"We are witnessing the fact that, in the occupied territories, the Russian aggressor again uses famine to kill everyone who refuses to accept bread from the hands of the invader… That is why thinking about security, keeping the Holodomor genocide in mind, is a special task," he said, adding that Ukraine will defeat the Russian invaders for sure.
