Japan, starting from April 2024, is launching a new program to support Ukrainian refugees, aimed at adapting Ukrainians to Japan, in particular by studying the language and culture of the country, The Japan Times reports.

“The Immigration Services Agency said ON October 20 that it will launch a program in April to help foreign nationals fleeing conflict zones adjust to living in Japan … The program was designed mainly to help Ukrainian evacuees living in Japan, whose numbers top 2,500,” The Japan Times said.

The program is aimed at promoting the adaptation of Ukrainians in Japan. In particular, within its framework one can join courses lasting six months or one year to study the Japanese language, as well as become familiar with the laws and customs of the country.

The agency will also continue providing up to two years of financial support to cover the living expenses to Ukrainian evacuees who do not have anyone to sponsor them.

In addition, from December 1, 2023, a government decision will come into force in Japan, according to which foreigners who have found refuge from the war in the country will receive permission to long-term stay in Japan with the possibility of employment.
