Ukraine to begin negotiations with Norway on bilateral security guarantees

Ukraine and Norway will begin negotiations on bilateral security guarantees, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on the X network on Wednesday.

“I spoke with Jonas Gahr Store to thank Norway for its recent military aid package as well as long-term support. We agreed to begin talks on a bilateral security guarantees document based on the G7 Vilnius Declaration,” he said.

According to Zelenskyy, “they also talked about events on the front line of Ukraine and the priority defense needs of Ukraine. We discussed further strengthening of our warriors, in particular air defense to protect critical infrastructure and the Black Sea grain corridor."

“We paid special attention to the Middle East. We agreed that further escalation is unacceptable and called on all parties to avoid civilian casualties,” Zelenskyy also noted.

According to Zelenskyy’s press service, during the conversation the presidents also coordinated their positions before future international events.

In particular, the President of Ukraine invited the Norwegian side to take part in the next meeting of national security advisers to state leaders on the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula.

In addition, Zelenskyy thanked his interlocutor for the long-term programs of budgetary support for Ukraine.

“Programs like these are critical because they give us more confidence in the future, facilitate long-term planning, and also send a strong signal to other countries,” he said.
