Estonia helps to restore bridge damaged by Russian missile in Zhytomyr region

The bridge across the Irsha River in Malyn, Zhytomyr region, which was damaged by a Russian missile on March 6, 2022, was restored with the assistance of Estonia.

"This bridge is only a small project we have implemented. But we want to show that you are not alone, that we stand by you… We should not wait until Ukraine wins. The bridge performs the role of uniting. This is connection with the European Union," Foreign Minister of Estonia Margus Tsahkna said at the opening ceremony.

First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Korniyenko, who also participated in the ceremony, emphasized that Estonia as one of the donors of Zhytomyr region's restoration has already contributed to its revival and also to Ukraine's victory in the war against Russia, according to the press service of the Ukrainian parliament.

"We have three components of our victory: the defense forces which are fighting today in the East and South for literally every millimeter of Ukrainian land, a common goal and general unity of the people, and the international assistance and support. This victory will be common due to your help and bravery of our soldiers," Korniyenko said, adding that all the facilities destroyed in Ukraine by the Russian aggression will be restored and the bridge in Malyn is a bright example of this.

As reported, at the first forum dedicated to the restoration of Zhytomyr region in September 2022, then Economy and Infrastructure Minister of Estonia (2022-2023) Riina Sikkut announced that Estonia would allocate EUR 1 million for the restoration of the bridge in Malyn.
