Russian occupiers spreading disinformation to Mariupol residents, saying Odesa taken, evacuation to Ukraine-held areas impossible – Mariupol City Council
A car belonging to Russian occupiers with a loudspeaker is driving around Mariupol spreading false information among the townspeople that the invaders allegedly have already taken control of Odesa, and that Zaporizhia allegedly no longer accepts refugees from Mariupol, so they should go to Russia, the Mariupol City Council's press service said on Thursday.
"A car of Russian invaders with a loudspeaker drives in Mariupol and announcing that Zaporizhia no longer accepts refugees and that they need to go to Russia, and that Odesa has already been taken. In addition, Russians in the village of Nikolske note that the only possibility of evacuation is by bus to Rostov and that Ukraine has abandoned them," the press service said.
This is a deliberate misinformation of the occupiers, in order not only to disrupt the evacuation process, but also to deliberately turn Mariupol residents against their country.
"People can be evacuated to Zaporizhia, where we are waiting for everyone. In addition, the evacuation from Nikolske is in the process, no matter how difficult it is. Ukraine does not abandon its own people. A request to everyone - spread the truth. Write. Call your loved ones," the city council said.
They add that the Ukrainian authorities will do everything so that not a single citizen of Mariupol "becomes a hostage in the clutches of the occupier."
