Seimas of Lithuania insists on early abandonment of Russian oil and gas

On Tuesday, the Lithuanian Seimas adopted a resolution on the issue of an embargo on imports of oil and gas from the Russian Federation and other countries that carry out or support Russia's military aggression against Ukraine.

A total of 117 parliamentarians backed the resolution, there were no votes "against" and no abstentions. According to the document, the government is invited to prepare a number of decisions that will make it possible to stop the import and consumption of Russian oil and gas as soon as possible.

Thus, the Seimas proposes to the government to accelerate the strategic project of synchronizing the Lithuanian energy system with the networks of continental Europe and prepare legal acts that will allow enterprises to terminate contracts for the purchase of Russian oil and gas. The government, in particular, urgently needs to make proposals for the development of renewable energy resources.

In addition, the parliamentarians urge the Cabinet of Ministers to immediately submit a plan to compensate for the economic consequences and increased energy costs for residents and businesses of the country, as well as the necessary legal acts and decisions, to the Seimas.
