Greek FM intends to accompany humanitarian mission to Mariupol

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias plans to personally accompany a humanitarian mission to Mariupol, Greek media reported on Tuesday.

"I plan to accompany the mission in person in coordination with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, with whom we are already in contact," Dendias said. He also sent an official note with a request for assistance to the Ukrainian side and a note with a request not to interfere with the sending of humanitarian aid to the Russian side.

The Greek Foreign Minister held a conversation about the situation of the civilian population in the city with Consul General of Greece in Mariupol Manolis Androulakis, who arrived in Greece on Sunday.

Tens of thousands of ethnic Greeks live in Mariupol, and therefore Athens seeks to help him.

On Monday, Dendias delivered a speech to the EU Foreign Affairs Council, in which he noted the need to protect civilians. He also discussed the topic with the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
