Ministry of Social Policy ensures evacuation of 2,274 children of vulnerable categories

As of March 14, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine ensured the evacuation of 2,274 children from vulnerable categories: orphans, children deprived of parental care, children who are in institutions for institutional care, children from foster families and family-type orphanages.

In particular, according to the press service of the Ministry, 1,837 children were evacuated from institutions for social protection of children (shelters for children, centers for the socio-psychological rehabilitation of children, centers for supporting children and families) and orphanages, including 1,083 children abroad, including 194 children from orphanages.

Also 60 foster families with 155 children and 39 family-type orphanages with 282 children were evacuated.

"The situation is better with the evacuation of children from social protection institutions. We have already managed to evacuate 1,837 children, 859 children have not been evacuated. Of these, 495 children remain in active hostilities. These are Kharkiv, Sumy, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Zaporizhia regions. Some of them do not have an opportunity to evacuate due to the fact that Russian troops do not provide humanitarian corridors. We hope to evacuate some of them in the near future," the ministry said in a statement.

It is noted that another 364 children are in such institutions in relatively safe regions of Ukraine.

According to the agency, the situation with the evacuation of children from orphanages is more difficult, where 1,251 children are still located, and only 194 children were taken to other countries.

"The main difficulty is that most children in boarding schools experience complex illnesses, complex developmental disorders and require special transportation conditions, special transport, appropriate medical personnel nearby. During a long trip abroad, this is difficult to ensure. As well as the necessary care in the country where the evacuation is carried out. We are looking for an opportunity to meet these needs," the ministry said.
